FUD

Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt.  Thankfully, I don't have a lot of FUD - it isn't in my DNA (thanks, Dad!).  There is the possibility of failure.  There.  I said it.

However, according to Dr. Suess, the probability of success is in my favor, so I will take those odds.

So be sure when you step.
Step with care and great tact and remember that
"Life's a Great Balancing Act."
Just never forget to be dexterous and deft.
And never mix up your right foot with your left.
                                                 And will you succeed?

Yes!  You will, indeed!(98 and ¾ percent guaranteed.)

Keeping my fingers crossed...

This is the space that we hope we can occupy.

The first floor is just under 3500 square feet and has been empty for years.  The last use of the space was as a recording studio, making it nearly ideal for the layout of the School of Rock.  The three sets of 80's-looking windows are filling the space of much larger, original storefront windows.  They would need to come out and be replaced with something much more compatible with the building style - Thanks to Pat Zubak of Downtown Oak Park for that idea!  I am imagining that the three windows on the far right would actually be a glass garage door - kind of like the ones below - making that space an indoor rehearsal room / outdoor open-air stage for summer concerts.

Here is a look from the inside looking out toward one of the rehearsal rooms.

There is even a concrete embossed crest above the front door that reminds me of the logo that one of the kids designed in the School of Rock movie.  This place looks like a School of Rock!

As one can imagine, my mind is occupied with design ideas, business plans, real estate, home work, grocery shopping, travel schedules, school schedules, ice hockey practice, voice and base lessons, trips to the skate park, exercise and yes... a Real Job.  Today, I will don a different hat and come back to this later.

Happy Monday!

I am lucky in this town

Welcome to my blog.  And I thought I didn't have anything to write about!!!

The title of this blog comes from one of my favorite lines in a Bruce Springsteen song called, "Long Walk Home," which pretty much sums up how I feel about Oak Park.  Although I know there are equally wonderful towns and communities everywhere, I feel very fortunate to live here and to be raising a family here.  Expanding our roots to include a School of Rock is another facet of our already colorful, friend-filled, beautiful life here.  I hope you enjoy this blog and check back periodically to get the latest news and updates of our progress.

Warmest,

Amy

Long Walk Home:
Here everybody has a neighbor
Everybody has a friend
Everybody has a reason to begin again

My father said "Son, we're lucky in this town
It's a beautiful place to be born
It just wraps its arms around you
Nobody crowds you, nobody goes it alone.
